God And Government

George Washington said:

It is impossible to rightly govern the world without God and the Bible.

U. S. Grant said that

The Bible is the sheet-anchor of our liberties.

Psalms 33:12: Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD; and the people whom he hath chosen for his own inheritance.

A great problem in America today is that government is an idol for many people. They want to replace God with government. They want to get government out from under God. They want to disconnect government from God. Those things are the natural result when people exclude God from their lives. They vote to put people in charge of the government that have no relationship with God and therefore promote evil rather than good. They do that to the detriment of the entire nation.

Psalms 144:10-15: It is he that giveth salvation unto kings: who delivereth David his servant from the hurtful sword. Rid me, and deliver me from the hand of strange children, whose mouth speaketh vanity, and their right hand is a right hand of falsehood: That our sons may be as plants grown up in their youth; that our daughters may be as corner stones, polished after the similitude of a palace: That our garners may be full, affording all manner of store: that our sheep may bring forth thousands and ten thousands in our streets: That our oxen may be strong to labour; that there be no breaking in, nor going out; that there be no complaining in our streets. Happy is that people, that is in such a case: yea, happy is that people, whose God is the LORD.

People, especially Christians, ought to have a litmus test to determine who they vote for. My personal litmus test is abortion. When a politician takes the evil side of any issue it is obvious that his judgment is morally impaired. He will take the evil side of many issues. If you get one cup of polluted water out of a well it is prudent to believe that the entire content of the well is polluted. Likewise, if a man stands for any immoral position it is prudent to expect him to stand for other immorality.

Luke 6:45: A good man out of the good treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is evil: for of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaketh.

The media tell us that a political leader*s morals are a personal matter and irrelevant. They are wrong. God promises that if we don*t have righteous leaders we will have problems. If a man is personally immoral he will be publicly immoral. If a man is upstanding personally he will be upstanding publicly.

Proverbs 29:2: When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice: but when the wicked beareth rule, the people mourn.
